Blog of the Week: The “Blog” of “Unnecessary” Quotation Marks

10 September 2009 One Comment FavoriteLoadingAdd to favorites

You’re so “happy” that people have finally started to truly “understand” grammar rules and punctuation issues. In fact, “perfect” punctuation is so “widespread” that it must have taken Bethany Keeley, founder of The “Blog” of “Unnecessary” Quotation Marks “ages” to hunt down the painful, yet humorous, photos of quotation marks used in the most unlikely of circumstances.

This week’s Blog of the Week, The “Blog” of “Unnecessary” Quotation Marks is a library of images in which the unassuming punctuation mark has been utilised in dozens of incorrect ways. While the original culprit may not recognise the ways in which they’ve changed the meaning of their document (the most common mistake seems to be considering quotation marks as a replacement for emphasis or underlining), the blog’s more punctuation-savvy readers will happily snigger their way through the collection.

As internet slang and poor education dumb down the general population’s awareness of apostrophe usage and spelling, it seems grammar fanatics have come out of the woodwork, huddled together in small internet communities built on the mutual horror of the degenerating writing world around them. The “Blog” of “Unnecessary” Quotation Marks is another bastion of grammar sanity in the ocean of lolz, writing’s and icanhaz-es. Not to mention it’s “literally” hilarious.
